Holiday Detox: 2 Recipes to Help You Recover

Chances are, you are in a food coma from all the Thanksgiving goodies. And chances are, you probably have a ton of leftovers. Celebrity Nutritionist Christine Avanti, author of Skinny Chicks Eat Real Food suggests using those leftovers to detox…STAT! Below are her recipes for Detox Turkey & Rice Soup and her Detox Tea.Christine's Detox TeaMakes 5 cups of tea; 0 caloriesIngredients 5 cups of water 3 oz peeled fresh ginger 6 bags of dandelion root tea 2 cinnamon sticks 30 drops of artichoke extract (30 drops is the equivalent of one dose) 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juiceDirections In a large saucepan, bring water and ginger to a gentle boil. Remove from heat. Add tea bags and cinnamon sticks. Cover and steep fifteen minutes. Strain into a large pitcher. Add artichoke extract and lemon juice. Stir and chill in refrigerator. Enjoy throughout the day.

"The Day After" Detox Turkey and Rice SoupMakes 8 servingsIngredients 32 oz. chicken stock or broth 4 cups water 1 onion, diced 10 oz. cremini mushrooms, sliced 3 stalks celery, diced 1 cup carrots, diced 2 teaspoons chipotles in adobo 1 bay leaf 5 cloves garlic, minced 2 teaspoons sea salt ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon thyme, chopped 1 pound raw or roasted turkey, or rotisserie chicken 1 cup brown rice, cooked ½ cup parsley, chopped Lemon wedges for garnish Directions 1. If you are using raw meat, cube the meat and marinate in extra virgin olive oil for at least one hour with the minced garlic, sea salt, pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, and dry thyme. Sauté in 1 teaspoon of olive oil, cooking thoroughly. Set aside. Meanwhile, combine first eight ingredients in a large pot, bring to a boil, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes. 2. If using cooked meat, combine first 13 ingredients in large pot. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes. 3. Add turkey and rice and simmer for 5 more minutes. 4. Stir in fresh parsley and season soup with sea salt and fresh cracked pepper. 5. Ladle soup into bowls. Sprinkle with fresh lemon juice and serve.
